Lyrical Affirmations

As I took Betty for her morning jaunt this morning, I stopped at a light and happened to look up. At 6am I am not always the most cheerful or observant person and I tend to miss things, like, you know . . . THE SKY!

It was so gorgeous. The sunrise was painting the whole horizon in shades of pink, orange and blue, thin foggy clouds were stretched out and scattered everywhere – it was stunning. So much so, that out loud I exclaimed, “What a beautiful morning!”

Que my mother. The same moment I said it I knew what was coming from my repressed childhood memories of musicals. . . “There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow . . There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow, the corn is as high as an elephant’s eye, and it looks like it’s climbing clear up to the sky.” Oklahoma! What, no one? Noone’s mother made them watch and listen to Oklahoma so much that even their little brothers know all the lyrics to every song? It was a strange form of child abuse.

But actually, it got me thinking about how some song lyrics make really good affirmations. Because all of the rest of my walk I was singing the chorus to that opening song of Oklahoma! and I thought, what a nice message to be sharing with myself and the world all day. So thanks for the musicals mom!

“Oh what a beautiful morning!

Oh what a beautiful day,

I have a beautiful feeling

everything’s going my way!”

Oh yes – we are, some of us, very enlightened, and have no need for the sun. We disperse our own vibrational energy of light and truth – F-ing Denver!!!!!!!
