In the sky! It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s M.I.G.

September 8, 2008

Last night marked the first ever M.I.G. meeting at my place. M.I.G. is not just a sexy Russian plane (I don’t know that any of you are the plane enthusiasts that I am) but is the unofficial acronym for my new Manifestation and Intention Group. I say “mine” but I should say “our.” It is a group of my most amazing girlfriends here in L.A. that have come together to form a think tank, hold each other accountable for growth and action and to provide each other with the right blend of challenge and support.

I think it’s really interesting that this group’s first meeting should start the weekend after my first “Practice of Self-Management” class at work. My corporate job has a 10-week class every fall called “The Practice of Self-Management” where we meet Thursday mornings for two hours (paid and during our work day) for a discussion, group meditation, and lecture. You are recommended and approved for the class by your boss, and I was invited to participate. It’s really great. We have a daily assignment to meditate for 30 minutes during our work day (we have a yoga studio in the office so we can go in there for quiet and to not be disturbed) and to keep a daily journal of our focus assignment for the week. It’s a rare corporate job indeed that does this!

I feel really lucky to have found this job, which is developing me as a person and investing a lot of time in me. While it’s not the job I want forever, it’s a pretty great place to be until I get Duchess off and running. And I’m so excited about M.I.G. (our first assignment is to come up with a name we can all like).

So today’s quote comes from Marianne Williamson, as was quoted by Nelson Mandela at his inaugural speech. And it’s about unapologetically being who you are and letting your light shine. So shine on wild diamonds!

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us. We ask ourselves ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, you are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine. We were born to make manifest the glory that is within us.”

Give to let

August 26, 2008

Today I am continuing on with Deepak Chopra’s “Seven Spiritual Laws of Success.” I should mention this is from the “One Hour of Wisdom” pocketbook series, so it’s the condensed version of the original full length title. Moving on . . .

Yesterday we learned about The Law of Pure Potentiality. That we are all created from Source. That we are Source unless we let our ego get in the way. That we belong to the same laws of nature which would have us effortlessly, grown, flow and move through our lives, creating abundance with ease. Today’s law is the second in the series, which is The Law of Giving and Receiving. This is one of the most basic laws that we should all be able to agree on whether your religious, spiritual or anywhere in between. I remember going to Agape one Sunday and listening to Dr. Beckwith giving a sermon saying, “We don’t give to get more things. We give to let.” He was basically saying that when we give openly and freely of ourselves, we just create more space for great things to flow into our lives. So we aren’t giving to “get” things: we’re giving to “let” abundance come to us and fill the open space we just created.

Deepak Chopra stresses that this giving and receiving is an energy exchange, and that we need to keep the flow open and not stop up the energy. This means you should be open to receiving as well as giving. I like the way he describes it, “If you want love, learn to give love. If you want attention and appreciation, learn to give attention and appreciation; if you want material affluence, help others to become materially affluent.” (31)

A few ways to practice The Law of Giving and Receiving today are to gratefully receive any gift you get (whether it be a compliment or a material object) and to give everyone you encounter today a gift as well (again it can be a genuine smile, a compliment, or a wish for happiness, success and love in their life). How many times have you received a compliment from a stranger and thought – that was so nice, they don’t know me, they didn’t have to say that. It really does make a difference in someone’s day, so this is often the best way to practice. It’s a simple way you can keep good energy circulating around you and bless the lives of others.

Allez! Create a great day!

Everybody I love you

August 14, 2008

Good Morning. Well the creativity has been flowing the past few days and I’ve been getting a lot done. Progress on Duchess is inching its way closer to a finished product and I’ve been partnering with my Mom to finish her retreats website. Once it’s done I will share the link so you can check it out.

In the meantime I had a very productive and very relaxing day yesterday. It’s weird to put those two words together, they seem counter-intuitive, but I love the work I’m doing for Duchess so much and I find myself relaxed after finishing it up. I love getting things done for the website and I really enjoy the research behind my ideas. I think that’s how the experts say you’re on to something. Doing what you love. I never have understood that before now.

But I’m also loving the journey – Duchess isn’t a destination for me, it’s a lifestyle. It’s a creative process where I’m doing the writing, reading, workshops, collaborative thinking, research and building that I love every day. It’s not about Duchess being “done” for me, because I don’t think it will ever be done. Duchess is a living, breathing entity, she will always be morphing, changing, adapting, expanding and growing. That’s the life I’m trying to breathe into her.

So today’s thought is to love where you are, enjoy and create the process, and keep yourself present in the moment now, while holding goals of your purpose.

“There is nothing that you cannot be, do, or have; and we want to assist you in achieving that. But we love where you are right now, even if you do not, because we understand how joyful the journey to where you want to go will be.”

– Manifest your Desires (Ester and Jerry Hicks)

Say, say, say what you want!

August 13, 2008

I chose say what you want, because I’ve been rather good at that the last few days. Friday night I spoke with someone about how much I loved the yummy (but very bad for you!) peanut butter french toast at the griddle. Yummm! I also was thinking about how much I love to go out for breakfast on the weekend, especially Sunday morning. It’s probably one of my all time favorite things to do. Then Sunday when I woke up, Shar said, “Would you maybe want to have breakfast this morning?” YES PLEASE!! I told her it was her choice, to which she said, “I know it’s bad for us, but I really feel like a waffle from the Griddle.” Synchronicity.

We started out to brave the terrible parking and long lines of the Griddle at noon on a Sunday. As we left Shar said, “There’s going to be a great parking spot for us.” And when we got there, there was. First row in the parking lot. If any of you have ever tried to park at the Griddle (or really anywhere in LA!) you know what an amazing manifestation that was. So how’s that for saying what you want and getting it!

While we were standing waiting for a table, I said to Shar, “I really want flowers – I think this week, the flowers are coming.” You can imagine how happy and shocked (but almost not shocked) I was when, coming back to my office from lunch on Monday, there was the MOST beautiful arrangement of flowers. The moment I saw them I just KNEW they were for me. And sure enough, they were! I won’t say who they’re from, but you know who you are, thank you SO much, they are so beautiful and so thoughtful and I love you so much! The person who ordered them even called the florist and specifically instructed, “No roses. She loves Gerber Daisies, and Hydrangea, and Orchids. And make it modern looking, she likes that.”  Thank you!

On Tuesday I didn’t have any milk, so I had to skip my breakfast tea and was feeling a bit grumpy (probably from not having my morning tea or coffee!). But on the walk to work I thought, “No, I’m adjusting my attitude. Somehow I’m going to get some coffee or tea this morning.” I just believed that passing thought, let it go, and walked to work with no idea on how that would be, just that it would be. And sure enough one of the women at work called me about an hour later saying she was at Coffee Bean, was running late to our meeting, and could she grab me anything. Victory was mine!

Finally, today I needed a day off. I’m feeling exhausted and pulled in a lot of directions, so I called in and took the day off. And as I sat down to write the blog this morning I thought of the Griddle, the parking spot, the gorgeous flowers, the coffee and today off of work and realized – I got everything I asked for so far this week. Everything I wanted I recieved. What a great week and what an awesome excercise. I’m feeling very lucky, and very grateful and blessed for my charmed life here in L.A. It’s a lot of work sometimes, but it’s very wonderful and there is so much freedom in what I’m doing.

Lyrical Affirmations

August 7, 2008

As I took Betty for her morning jaunt this morning, I stopped at a light and happened to look up. At 6am I am not always the most cheerful or observant person and I tend to miss things, like, you know . . . THE SKY!

It was so gorgeous. The sunrise was painting the whole horizon in shades of pink, orange and blue, thin foggy clouds were stretched out and scattered everywhere – it was stunning. So much so, that out loud I exclaimed, “What a beautiful morning!”

Que my mother. The same moment I said it I knew what was coming from my repressed childhood memories of musicals. . . “There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow . . There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow, the corn is as high as an elephant’s eye, and it looks like it’s climbing clear up to the sky.” Oklahoma! What, no one? Noone’s mother made them watch and listen to Oklahoma so much that even their little brothers know all the lyrics to every song? It was a strange form of child abuse.

But actually, it got me thinking about how some song lyrics make really good affirmations. Because all of the rest of my walk I was singing the chorus to that opening song of Oklahoma! and I thought, what a nice message to be sharing with myself and the world all day. So thanks for the musicals mom!

“Oh what a beautiful morning!

Oh what a beautiful day,

I have a beautiful feeling

everything’s going my way!”

A Beautiful Mind

August 5, 2008

This week has been a very good lesson for me in the power of our thoughts, our manifestations, and creating our existence from our source. I had a very unique experience on Saturday, which I will write about in a later post, but it really helped me to connect back into my spirit, my expansive nature, and my purpose.

It made me realize how grateful I am for what I have and everything that I have been blessed with. And today’s quote in my Buddhist Reflections book seemed to tie nicely into my life. So here, I think, is one of the greatest tools we can use to realize total happiness.

“Right now, at this very moment, we have a mind, which is all the basic equipment we need to achieve complete happiness.”

-Howard Cutler.

Man is that he might have joy

August 4, 2008

Today’s thought is short and sweet. It’s one I came across this morning and thought was applicable to each of us every day.

“The Miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth, dwelling deeply in the present moment and feeling truly alive.”

-Thich Nhat Hanh
