Duchess Digest

January 29, 2009

It turns out taking a sick day can be very productive. I finished my article proposal for ACR, spent several hours coordinating the new website, went running, did dance, read an entire book of short stories (“How We Are Hungry” – by Dave Eggers – a nice little collection) and completed my registration for an all day seminar Saturday called “Ordinary Women Leading Legendary Lives.”

This week’s Duchess Digest posted – it’s called “Objects in Motion” and it’s all about energy. Yep, this time of year when we all have goals and lofty aspirations, but feel some of the winter time sluggishness holding us down, I thought a pep talk on energy could do us all some good. So check it out over on the wonderful Single Minded Woman Website and be sure to check out their other articles as well. There is a bunch of great content this morning including how-to guides on surviving a break-up, yoga, winter health and more. So check it out and we’ll see you back here tomorrow!

Duchess Digest Wednesday

January 7, 2009

Ladies, all the ladies . . . louder now. .

It’s Duchess Digest Day over on the Single Minded Woman website. This week’s article is called “The Woman behind the Man behind the Curtain” (for all of you who remember that Wizard of OZ reference – pay no attention to the man behind the curtain). It is about taking some tips for increasing your efficiency and sanity around the office. Check it out at:

Or if you are referencing back to the site later, you can view it and all the Duchess archives at:

And one final thing this morning. Hearing from you ladies is the highlight of my day, nay, my week. I love writing this blog and trying to develop the Duchess material. I do. I really want some other women to gain help, understanding or inspiration through what I’m doing and what I’ve done (been through, etc.). So when I get emails and comments from you ladies, most of whom I’ve never met, saying your dealing with similar things, or getting inspiration from the daily duchess emails or the blog – it really is the joy of my life! Keep on rocking and sharing ladies – you rule! You’re what motivates me to get up early, early in the morning and write every day.

I wish you all so much love, adundance, success and fun in this New Year! Life is meant to be fun, joyous and adventurous – always remember that when you’re putting yourselves out there and tapping in to your true potential.

long may you reign!

Happy Holidays!

December 24, 2008

Happy Holidays to you all! This morning is the last scheduled post for the week. I’m putting in a short day at my job and then picking up my little brother for Christmas Eve. I can’t wait!

I’ll be back on Monday – until then I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. This will be my first ever without my family and without snow – so I will take some pictures on the beach!

Wednesday is still Duchess Digest Day on – so make sure you check out this week’s article called “You Light up Your Life.” It’s all about shining your brightest in the dark – always a fitting topic for the cold and wintry months.

Wishing you all the best this holiday!

Duchess Digest Makes the Front Page!

December 17, 2008

That’s right – it’s Wednesday and time for this week’s Duchess Digest Column over on Singe Minded Woman. I love their site and I love my editor there. In fact, before you read today’s story I have to share a funny story with you. I had a very challenging week last week, you all read the posts, you know. But it was capped off on Friday by a very upsetting personal discovery that my ex now has a girlfriend. Always the reality that you’ll both move on but hurts none-the-less and stings a bit more when you’re spending the holidays single. That’s just the reality of it.

I had a bit of a freak out and bawled my eyes out. The really heavy, sobbing, gasping for air kind of bawling. While I was having my breakdown I started checking me email (how diligent – ha ha!) and had a response from my editor to the story I had emailed her (the one you’re about to read – it’s today’s column). She always sends me a quick note to say she received it. But this week she included a short message that was very sweet and thoughtful, one part of which was about my serenity. I actually stopped crying to laugh! Here I am crying my eyes out in my p.j.’s, a total wreck, feeling sorry for myself and my lovely editor tells me I have serenity. And that, ladies, is the definition of irony!

So enjoy this week’s installment! And enjoy the Single Minded Woman site – they have so many wonderful resources for women of all ages and life situations. I hope you all enjoy and read whatever you need to find today.

(check it out – this week’s column made the front page – under relationships for the blog! Or directly at:

Duchess Digest Wednesday

December 10, 2008

Well, as my friend so eloquently put it last night, it’s hump day. And if you’re anything like me, there is an 11 year old kid inside your mind that made you laugh at such a funny term for about five minutes. Maybe that’s just me and my girlfriend when we get silly. We had a pretty intense case of the giggles last night. But I digress. . .

Need helping getting over the hump? (tee hee – I did it again!) Try this weeks column on the wonderful and always inspirational Single Minded Woman website. This weeks Duchess Digest article is on establishing a routine to turn big goals into daily practice. For me, that meant my very own new acronym, M.A.P. Check it out and see if it helps – or make your own new acronym. Just get ‘er done!
